Met a bunch of people at ETH Denver who have farcaster accounts and want to start becoming active but don’t know where to start, which channel to cast to, and they don’t want to appear spammy or get scolded for going against a norm. I tried to encourage everyone to cast and reply without overthinking too much.

In completely unrelated news Happy Sunday to @kierancalledit @holamatey @ahamidi 👋 Loved meeting you all (and so many others) this past week and hope to see you casting and having some fun around here 😜 Today is a recovery day for me, how are you all doing?

https://warpcast.com/samuellhuber/0x38bc7b1f Love this. Rather than thinking about just 'how do I cast well' which suggests an interest in being here only to 'tell people my stuff', think about how to engage with the people here. We'd never walk into a party and only think 'how do I get people to listen to me'.

yep i'd say just reply reply reply then you'll find stuff you want to share and can do so in the channel where you replied so you don't need to think that much

You could point them towards this article. I think it covers many of the concerns they may have. https://paragraph.xyz/@clauswilke/get-more-followers-on-farcaster

One of the many things I love about Farcaster is that in general, we take newcomers or returners by the hand and guide them. I haven't seen or experienced much scolding. Tell them that. Be yourself, find your tribe, and we will embrace you. Unless you bring your X-game. Then stay on the bird app.

I found Farcaster to be the place to share what I’m thinking about or to gain insights into my interests it’s not about getting likes, but about shaping a community

it might be easier to spontaneously cast to hobby & interest channels if one actively enjoys those things. otherwise, commentary will find its fork.

My best tip: just start! You’ll meet a handful of people who become friends and that’s all you need to be hooked! Seems to be growing from there for me. 😍

best possible advice imo. I was in this exact situation, but now I just cast what I think without overanalyzing it and it has become super easy.

anecdotally the overthinking and sense of…rigidity was infinitely worse pre-channels. now the vibe is much more open and forgiving. still coming out of my own shell tbf lol i think authenticity goes a long way. most people won’t get upset about wrong channels or norms if they can tell you’re genuinely trying

Exactly my recommendation! “Post what you’re passionate about and people will respond to it - don’t overthink it”

This is great advise. TBH fc feels like Facebook circa 2005 when everyone was able to share whatever was on their mind without overthinking how people would respond. Hoping we can keep the vibe high! Last night was awesome!

I feel like that a lot. It’s funny how a new space can feel intimidating even when it’s welcoming in reality.

Thank you so much for this. Being new to the space, I'm definitely in camp overthink with frequent post/cast second-guessing, but I want to show up authentically, too, so I will just keep going! :-)
