Going on a hair journey in 2025 (already started), any tips to help along the way? I’ve been looking into minoxidil and finasteride but would love any general advice on growing your hair out, styling it, etc. My hair has always been something that I’m self-conscious and OCD about, hoping to kick that next year

i know he’s polarizing but check out Bryan Johnson’s tips for hair wellness! hard to find someone else who is publishing their findings and experimentation as much. and also recommend getting a red light therapy hat / scalp. supposed to be super good for hair (haven’t tried it myself).

Ketoconazole shampoo + a good conditioner. Conditioner might reduce the anti-DHT effects of the shampoo tho. Not sure. .

Don’t take finastride bro. The side effects ain’t worth it. Minoxidil 2.5 mg pills are OK.

Assume that if you start you will have to stay on it forever, they basically have a bounce back effect if you come off of it. So be careful. That said I don’t know anyone who has succeeded long term from meds as far as I know. The solution inevitably becomes go to Turkey or shave it off.

For an easy starter just go with Minoxidil foam mousse from Costco. I get the six pack and use in the morning and night. For shampoo, get some Nizoral. This regime should keep you good until you figure out what else (if anything) you want to do next. I’ve been using this regime for years and years and I’m holding up good. I’m looking into other topicals like hims&hers and investigating stem cells but hard to find reputable info on that.

I know a couple male friends that have had great growth results using Harklinikken combined with finasteride. I like rosemary oil. For styling tips just start bookmarking reels with your hair type and the algo will do the rest!

You should go see Dr. Shaver at Bernstein medical on the upper east side. She has a good sense of what the latest tech is and I haven’t seen them push unnecessary procedures on people.

Started fin 2 months ago, no minox yet but considering. Diffuse thinning and receding temples is the problem i'm trying to solve. There's been some improvement, but right now in a shedding phase (internet tells me thats supposed to happen). Hopefully by next summer the results will start showing. No sides if you were wondering.

If you have balding problems, then the first thing you should do is visit a trichologist. I also read a lot about finasteride and decided to use it, and stopped after a few days because I had an surgical operation not linked with hair, but they said not to take any drugs. So I visited trichologist after some time and she told me that my balding is not bad yet and finasteride would be too risky to take and might be too much for my problem. I'm using monoxidil currently, which isn't giving me a visible effect after 4-5 months but sometimes it takes more than that period of time. Anyway, I believe that starting your hair journey with a consultation with a doctor is the way to go! Good luck!

Had a long “self conscious about hairline” phase after I had a stylist laugh and blurt out “you know your hair is already thinning right?” when I was 23. Was devastating ngl. Tried a lot of different things, decided I had a good head shape for shorter looks (caeser cuts tend to be one most barbers can get right for me) and never found a long cut that I liked on me, but they definitely exist. Henry Cavill is the closest to a receding hairline king we have (Will Arnett a distant second) Depending on your personal situation, google him a ton and you should be able to find stuff you like as a visual reference fwiw I like how my hair looks now. I think it has character (Stockholm syndrome but w/e) and since I plan on being visually online it’s important for me to be open about this stuff. Esp bc young men are getting body shamed in unprecedented ways and it’s really fucking em up. I don’t plan on ever getting transplants and assume I will go full Jason Statham at some in the next 2 decades.
