Please join the discussion, would love to hear your opinions: I'm constantly thinking about how to improve this platform for artists, collectors and art enjoyers alike. I kind of left Twitter/X for various reasons, since Musk took over and turned it into a propaganda machine. But whenever I return there for a quick update, my art feed is really top notch. Almost everybody who is active here, also posts or cross-shares frequently on X as well. But more important, a lot of artist I want to follow and I want to be informed about only post there (and maybe on Bluesky, Mastodon, IG as well, don't know). Point is, they all have a Farcaster account, but turned their backs on the platform at some point or never really got into it. I would therefore be delighted if they were to return and exploit Farcaster's potential.

Important to mention, I'm not talking about replacing one platform with the other. Fully understand artists need to serve as many channels as possible to reach the widest audience possible. Also people have been building their following on Twitter for years. So besides the obvious reasons, what might be other reasons or pain points to not be active here as well? I'd like to assemble a collection of reasons, ideas, critique and everything else that comes to our minds, with your help. My approach is not to ask others to change something, but to first see what you can change yourself, what contribution you can make to improve a situation. These can also be small, very simple things.

- What is better solved on other platforms? What are currently the biggest pain points? Onboarding, I onboarded a lot of artists in April of 2024. Zero are still here. I don’t say this lightly. Zero. Why would an artist come to Farcaster or another social network? Two reasons that come to mind - better visibility (they feel seen) or better financial opportunities. I have spent a year here full time and have put so much time and energy into Farcaster, I would say more than 99% of others who came on at the same time. I currently have less visibility than I did when I left X (7900 followers on Farcaster vs 8300 followers on X), but it doesn’t bother me because of the financial rewards. I’ve also been able to grow to 7300 followers on Rodeo which now feels like my strongest social profile. At current rates, I will have more followers on Rodeo than either Farcaster or X, within weeks. continued below…

I think the first time experience and onboarding is not great for artists. They need to following the right channels and know where to post their art. Rodeo can actually help with that as well since they use farcaster social graph. However, we need a reverse-onboarding that help people who joined Rodeo to also signup for farcaster. I can't count how many times I tried to share a Rodeo post but found out the artist only has X profile.

I don't use Web 2.0 socials like twitter, ig. Instead only Web3 platforms for communication & marketing (Warpcast, Rodeo, Bluesky, etc). None of these new platforms prioritize the artist, who show up, engage, are ignored, & leave. The artist is the key to platform success, unfortunately they're ignored from top down

I love FC and feel very much « at home » here. One thing that I find discouraging sometimes is closed channels. Especially when onboarding it can feel like you’re just a spectator. Other points are more technical: inability to upload several images, for examples. Or difficulties with some videos. Integration with rodeo is fabulous imo and could be expanded to other platforms? Overall a great « community «  experience here when X feels like swimming alone in the ocean..

My experience on and feelings about TwiX are very similar. I’m also still using /gallery as a collector, but the performance there for me is deteriorating (is there such a thing as too many NFTs? 😉). I’m actually surprised that artists aren’t turning their backs on TwiX en masse. Maybe frames (like the @gallery one, if it performed better) is the way to go for artists here.

A few things come to mind: - Onboarding and new user experience: hard to pierce through the algo when you're new and seen as spammy for a while. Maybe a clear onboarding guide with dos and don'ts and a list of art channels can help with that. - DAUs. FC clearly has a lower number of daily active users compared to X and going through the above hoops to reach a few k's of users might not cut it for many people. This will change in the near future as Coinbase adds the FC feed to its users (>100m users and >8m dailies). Sure, X will still be larger, but Coinbase users are all in crypto, as opposed to X so they might become comparable in size for the crypto world.

Distribution primarily. X is still number 1 for eyeballs, esp if meme able art. Fc in contrast is much more cosy. Which may be better for more closed door type of work, eg sharing wips and asking for feedback. /higher to me has been functioning very much as a design collective where u can get quick design feedback and see others riffing on your work. For final products, I think u can beat x (unless very web3 native products leveraging frame v2)

I feel you, Tim. I finally left Twitter by slinking out the door before Jan 20th, knowing I'll have to come back sometimes to promote projects. Mass adoption is the biggest challenge, people stay on Twitter because that's where "everyone" is. FC can get overwhelmed with Rodeo posts, too. They're fun and engaging, but don't exactly foster a dialogue. I have a lot of love for people who keep posting art inspo etc. here on FC. 🖤

Great initiative Tim! I think the biggest challenge is for the Farcaster team (and associated projects) to understand that Art Is Content. A simple example of this is this question: https://warpcast.com/marcelonada/0x0c088714

I would love for amazing artists, platforms, galleries, museums, and DAOs who created their Farcaster accounts but stopped using the network to come back and stay here. I'll answer your questions with some suggestions about this.

I’ve always loved evolving on Twitter since 2021, watching the great artists. But the problem is that these artists and collectors form a small, closed-off group. No response, neither to comments nor DMs, ever. Nothing. I found it ridiculous to watch them communicate among themselves while seeing the astronomical sums of their sales. Yes, they are great artists, no doubt. So, we try competitions, hundreds of us hoping to get noticed, trying to become great too. But we’re never selected, understandably, considering how many of us are trying to show up, like children in class raising their hands saying, “Me, me, me!” and then… nothing. No notifications, no sales, no comments. So, we create a small network of artist friends, but since we’re all broke and can’t sell anything, we burn out. We navigate through scams, ads, rugs, and manipulations. So, we try to inject some fun, giving away works to our friends.

I’ve been finding engagement on here diminishing rapidly 📉 X is still pretty good as long as I’m on the Following tab and not For You which is filled with political ragebait.

Don’t have time to write long now, but just one idea: discoverability. For all their flaws, X’s feed recommendations (For You tab) are really good to discover new people and new ideas. You would have people pop up that are suddenly trending but you never heard of them. TikTok of course pushes this to a whole new level, makes it more personalized as well. Even Reddit has post upvoting, which pushes the post higher on the feed. Rodeo has “collected by friends” tab, which is like a recommendation feature. Farcaster didn’t crack that discoverability yet. The standard answer from the FC team is: build your own client 😅 True, someone could build a client that just nails these algo recommendations. I think this would make a huge difference on the platform. Thank you for starting the discussion on this! 1000 $degen

590 $degen I wish more people outside of the art community cared about this, but it’s just not the reality. Artists need a home, it’s hard to not feel discouraged from feedback that I receive from artists time and time again, it just gets worse over time, including a private message I received to this thread. People don’t even want to waste their time sharing their opinion on the matter because they feel like it’s on deaf ears.

Thanks for opening up this discussion! I joined Farcaster out of curiosity without knowing anyone, and while I’ve met a few people through global meetups, I still find the platform quite closed off in many ways. One major challenge is engagement, tipping is an interesting feature, but it can make interactions feel transactional. Many artists don’t have the resources to tip regularly, and without that, getting visibility can be difficult. On other platforms like X or Instagram, engagement feels more organic, anyone can interact, comment, or join a conversation easily.

As of early 2025, X (formerly Twitter) had an estimated 650 million monthly active users and 240–300 million daily active users. As of June 2024, the crypto social media platform Farcaster had around 50,000 active users per day. In July 2024, Farcaster reported a record high in user engagement with over 73,700 unique users. 13 👏

I ended up here because my account on X was suspended, and it still is. I had nearly 5,000 followers during the year and a half I was on that platform. I've been here for almost a year now and have only 800 followers. Farcaster has a very cliquey atmosphere, making it easy for newcomers to feel excluded. I was marked as a spammer a few times in the beginning. If I hadn't been suspended from X, I probably would have left immediately.
