The client and protocol used to have the same name -- Farcaster. I think the client should have kept the name Farcaster and the protocol should have been named Warpcast. The Farcaster meme is just too strong (even back then) and is usually first touchpoint for new users (instead they have to learn about Warpcast).

Good that the meme is the protocol and not the first popular client.

I used to agree -- but I've made my peace w it. Happy to have protocol primacy even though I agree the client will drive early on!

I think if they called it something as unsexy as SMTP or TCP IP or FTP then we wouldn’t have all this confusion. But it wouldn’t be as fun Are there any popular protocols with a sexy memetic name besides farcaster?

Agreed! "Farcaster" is iconic atp. New users search for that name so keeping the it for the client would make it smoother to discover & share. also, re-naming the protocol would have been fine since developers have to read documentation & learn new definitions anyway. These are good problems to have though, ig :)

I’m not sure about that. Learning about Warpcast is learning about Farcaster.

I really like Farcaster as the protocol name. It's more descriptive of the permanence/immutability of what users own. We can go FAR. Warpcast is all like - we're the sexy best-in-show app that gets you going FAR >> FASTER. The difference here is a new concept for normies in Web2, well captured by the names as they are.
