after this experience, i reached out 1:1 to a mix of 30 non-crypto people — tech-forward engineers, founders, execs. 85% regarded crypto + blockchain as different. they value blockchain, not crypto. one even said, "when i hear crypto, i immediately think "scam". and people think memecoins will solve our PR issue?

memecoins are one usecase, and tbf they have onboarded a lot of new users. we just need more and better usecases before these people learn that 'crypto' is what secures blockchain

well, if you look at @basedpepe0x52 or higher or for example they are 99% unruggable meme coins. In any category there are both ends of the spectrum. People come to my Blockchain for Beginners weekend seminar which is NOT about the casino and yet they want to know which coins is good and safe; why would next cohort NOT want to make money?? No, I won't ever recommend pump dot fun but i would gladly shill both examples above to the next cohort.

It’s really interesting to see how people differentiate blockchain from crypto. It seems like the negative perception of crypto is still strong, while blockchain is gaining more respect. I wonder if this divide will continue or if the two will eventually merge in people's minds. haha

Do you really think different PR will change that kind of person’s mind? They will come around to blockchain because they will have to (the tech) and then realize that blockchain is crypto. Let’s focus on ourselves and the people who get it now. Get the early adopter cohort larger, richer, and tighter first

how do you think the industry's perception impacts our ability to deliver on crypto's full potential, both in terms of technology and culture?

i've been saying this for a while but personally i don't think crypto needs to be pushed to mainstream / have good PR anymore - i actually think quietly cooking behind the scenes is the best thing right now (with mainstream adoption being that the general public are blissfully unaware they're using crypto / blockchain tech in their day to day through abstraction and privy/dynamic etc.) memecoins (and any other narrative tbh) serve one purpose in my eyes - it's a trial by fire for early adopters to either get forged in the flames of crypto hell or spat out never to return idk to me, i see it like this: crypto is culture, memecoins are a currently trending subculture, blockchain / onchain is SEO terminology

In the context of teaching, I always say Blockchain. Crypto anything was unlikely to get approved as a class.

I've been saying that Crypto is the "C-word" now, don't use it. It's blockchain or onchain only.

would you say that crypto is just the best use case for blockchain? blockchain is a type of record keeping, and crypto leverages that tech.

curious if anyone actually has data on how many net new people memecoins onboarded this cycle my gut thinks so many have been burnt from previous, it’s mainly those who have gambled before and just have a larger risk appetite would say @polymarket is really what has brought net new users along with some games

The term "crypto" has been dragged through the mud so much, not sure if it's bad rep will ever be fully shaken off
