why don’t people form small groups (3-5) around an interest, create a channel, and cast/reply to each other? it could: 1. amplify reach (shared audiences) 2. create richer, more dynamic discussions (shared effort) 3. build deeper connections maybe it feels like extra work or it’s hard to find each other?

instead of person A, B + C casting about topic Y in their own siloes (which happens), it’d be better — for them and for the network — if A, B, C casted in one place and engaged w/ each other. Bluesky, TikTok algo etc. make it easy to discover discussions on specific topics. hard here, so topics don’t grow.

feels like this is a groupchat. 3-5 people in one groupchat works best as UI. You aren't guaranteed to see the messages in an algo feed and going to channel is extra effort vs opening the groupchat in your usual message app

Because none of my friends are going to pay $5 to use Twitter but with only 1000 people. The issue is onboarding. People just say nah. This is the real issue. There is no incentive to get normal people on here. Until they subsidize growth and attack churn like a SaaS would then it’s just gonna be the same 1000 people casting at each other everyday like it is now.

I will say I've searched on Farcaster to see if there's a channel for something (Blueprint) and, not finding anything, decided not to cast about it because I doubted I'd get any interesting responses. Is it easy to create a channel these days?

this sounds like the public/private clubhouse-like group chat @erik and I think @dwr.eth discussed at one point why wouldn't they just create a group chat for it instead?

I think because this type of conversation/group works better in group chats. Needs some privacy to create connections.

Doesn’t this naturally happen anyway where people form collectives, orgs, etc and start posting under that umbrella and themselves?

Don't group creation cost warps? If I'm correct then I'm going to say that's why. Firstly because why should I pay to create a group on an app I already paid to be a part of and secondly the warps system is very much broken and has been for quite a while. My advance apologies for my ignorance if I'm wrong about the cost.

That's what @zwillow @janicka @theonlycakeone and @podom.eth and I have started doing recently. The thought which I discussed recently was that Small communities and channels need to join up and be a bigger group consisting of multiple channels (what the difference between 100k channel and 10 10k channels as long as it's different people) I'm here to help others if they need that growth help or just mentorship to give them that push to finally make their own channel etc. To me it's not hard finding people. It's building that trust with new people that you don't "know". It just takes time.

Maybe we need a "Make a channel from discussion thread" button that invites everyone in the thread and maybe seeds the initial conversation. Not sure if lots of tiny channels is best but worth a try.

You just spawned it. I am an avid self-hoster. I get around this by knowing networks very well and crafting them to fit my needs. Where I lack in software skills, I for sure make up for them in the network access I give them and the rich connectivity. My network, my applications, my rules. With that said, would anyone be interested in forming a channel to share and learn about self hosting and creating private networks?
