ebaumsworld was wild. A friend showed it to me while we were hanging out at an Einstein Bagel (because people used to do that). It was the first real exposure to internet video-memes that I remember. I spent a lot of time going down rabbit holes via directories like Yahoo, Alta Vista, Lycos, etc. but don't remember specific sites I'd haunt.

somethingawful, worldstarhiphop, grouphug come to mind for me personally. Arguably the most influential in modern meme culture is YTMND, imo. Theres definitely some overlap across /vip (internet culture) + /techarchive though I’d lean more towards the former.
