Small delights: serendipitous community building Yesterday my wife & I went to our neighborhood coffee shop and ran into an acquaintance (mom of a teammate of our kid). She stopped by our table as she was leaving — and stayed for another 45 minutes. We had already known enough that we thought it'd be fun to hand out with them more, but we made all kinds of plans in yesterday's conversation. She had the intentionality to come by to say hey and we both had margin to foster a new relationship. And then, as *we* were leaving, we ran into our new youth pastor and got caught up on threads that are too big for in between Sunday morning services. The striking part this morning is how easy it all felt. It was like walking down a path rather than bushwhacking a trail. Community doesn't always happen like that, but it certainly can and we'll enjoy it when it does.

It’s pretty wild to me that people won’t join Farcaster because of its relationship with Coinbase. fwiw they clearly see (or assume) a tighter relationship than I do. This level of philosophical commitment — which happens all over the political grid — is always impressive & interesting to me. It’s hard to be consistent for so ling because of the various inconveniences it requires and the isolation it fosters. Beyond that, the arbitrary (from the outside; subjective might be more fair) boundaries are often drawn from hyper-personal experiences that make for good conversation. Eugene is *filled* with this type of person; that’s part of the city’s charm. They are content with the tradeoffs and make their own sacrifices to live somewhat consistent to their own principles. There’s just not a whole lot that I feel that stongly about, so maybe the issue is my natural amibvalence. I also thrive in ambiguity, wheras those who boycott services often see more black & white (even when it’s not there). I’m also a pretty strong pluralist, so it’s part of the package deal. So I’m curious: how do these people do it?
