~50% of people don’t have an inner monologue. do you? when does it happen for you, or is it 24/7?

I really don’t get how people don’t have an inner monologue— do they just hear nothing in their heads? This always fascinates me.

I have the Apple #4 version of an inner monologue. I don't get it when people say they actually "hear" themselves vividly.

My head is completely empty. No inner monologue. I also can't visualize things when I read a book. Like I can imagine what something should look like - but I can't visualize it if that makes sense.

24/7. Multiple trains of thought. Years training them to stay on track and not collide quite so much.

I do. Do you? I was once in the room when an acquaintance learned that inner monologue is a thing, and the look on his face as someone who has never had one, so shocked. I've talked to a lot of people who don't believe that people without one exist (despite studies they think it's just people talking past each other about things they both have), but that experience of seeing him learn about it was definite proof to me.

My inner monologue is like a freight train that's two miles long and runs 24/7.

If I am not present, I'm having an internal monologue. Being present is important for me. Having a monologue is also important for me.

🙋 No inner monologue by default. It turns on just when communicating. Inner monologue people seem to be experiencing the world through a pinhole of language, rather than engaging with it raw. Must be tedious?

The bigger question for bilinguals or polyglots: is your inner monologue in your mother tongue? Mine is 70 (non mother tongue) - 30. My ancestors are rolling in their graves 🫠
