~50% of people don’t have an inner monologue. do you? when does it happen for you, or is it 24/7?

I have the Apple #4 version of an inner monologue. I don't get it when people say they actually "hear" themselves vividly.

Not "hear". But I have a constant debate with myself. - I think A. - yes, but it's not exactly A, is it? What if B? - sure, you're partly right, but B does not mean not A, does it? - well it depends, how you define A. - yea, maybe I should have been more explicit... - what if C? - Hmm... that's a totally different perspective, but it may make sense... ... and so on.

do you also visualize images at #4, or is that higher on the scale (lower number)?

Interesting, I also struggle with that, specially visualizing images on my head, I literally can’t. Is this Apple scale a specific/medical way to mesure it?

I'm still confused by this test. I can somehow imagine an apple quite clearly (down to the texture of the skin), but I don't "see" it per se.

I believe Ted's OP and the image you've shared are different. This image more so pertains to Aphantasia (I have this and also recently shared this exact image and a discussion about it), whereas the OP is referencing 50% of people can't "talk to themselves" in their mind. I am a 5 on the apple scale (Aphantasia) but I do have an inner monologue. It's extremely interesting knowing we all have various combinations of our ability to visualize imagery, and also yay/nay of can/can't talk to ourselves in our mind.

What about when listening to like a fairytale or storybook? For me it’s more like a mix of thoughts and a quiet voice in the background. Not super vivid, but *just* there
