a view i hold that i didn’t think was all that contrarian growing up is that most people on earth are good, decent people who are not motivated exclusively by self-interest

We are embedded in structures that determine this The more we outsource value to the market (if it makes money, it must be good), the more self-interest becomes not just acceptable, but moral, because the only good is making money

the more you notice this view in person the more it comes true, I've witnessed it.

always if you unplug from news cycles for a week you will notice this vividly. i’ll give you a good example literally every conversation i have with anyone back home (lebanon), eventually ends with “but what if they convert your kids to trans”.

I think this is the most utilitarian view. It can only work if we think this way. Else does it matter if we believe so... I believe so. We can curate our believes.

I agree with you and believe that the people who are self-interested take up way more attention, especially since the rise of social media. This makes it appear that there are more self-interested people, but there aren’t. It’s just our system amplifies them.

If this wasn't true, we'd be in our anarchy at all times and wouldn't have functioning anything. The vast majority of human interactions every day are positive and/or pleasant enough to be forgotten. But I think we remember the negative ones more and develop a bias that isn't reality.

I’m not sure this is contrarian but my experience is that the people who disagree do so vehemently, mostly because of personal experiences of their own

keep that thought alive and you will manifest the same reality or at least be on an energetic level that will only attract the right kind of people in your life i think it's a beautiful thought process you had and don't let anything change it :)

Certainly seems contrarian on crypto social media, but possibly not irl. In real life people are pretty cool most of the time.

agreed i’ve always said that all of us are good and beautiful… We just let the system overshadow our essence… I believe in people. I believe that each of us have plenty of love, kindness, and empathy in our souls… We just need to have the courage to break free from the system we are living in to truly uncover and eventually “unleash” them🌹
