Ever since I ditched squats for more friendly/natural movements my strength and size have exploded. I tried for 10 years to perfect my squat form and just could never feel comfortable doing it. My max 1rm with back squat was ~350lbs.

Switching to leverage squat machine is absolutely gamechanger. My 1rm is now 440lbs and my legs have grown significantly. Don't feel that any specific lift/exercise is mandatory. Find what feels good and what you enjoy doing. My knees and low back are not longer in constant and pain and I'm making huge progres!

compounds movements like squats and deadlift are not optimal for growth in general, too many muscles involves, not only legs imo leg press, leg extensions and leg curl are best as they only target quads / hamstring

Regular squats and deadlifts always felt awkward for me. So I do other stuff, or goblet squats
