This is my biggest personal life challenge right now. Walkable neighborhoods I can affordably move my entire family to.

wrong person to comment as i live many many hours away from parents :). 45 mins driving distance is close enough tho! Option b will have significant impact on your daily quality of life, keep you probably happy which in turn reflects well into your family relationships .

I did a suburb move during Covid after leaving New York. 12 mins from folks. Soulless place, hated it Moved back to a city, walkable, more affordable than nyc, loving it Re: your question - depends on your relationship to your parents honestly

45 min is pretty close β€” I’d choose B

Are your parents elderly? Do you have kids? What’s the motivation for being so close? Not that you really need one just curious if this is weighing heavily on the decision.

B B B B B B I wish I could convince my folks to move within 45 minutes (they're trying the same tact on the opposite side tho).

I moved from b) to a) due to schools, cost of living, more kids stuff, less traffic and safer. Can't say much about parent proximity since they live 3hr flight away from both a) and b). I've thought about going back to b) but a) is quite nice for the kids.

I think B. IMO unless there’s a physical reason to be 5 mins to parents, 45 mins is enough to still see them essentially as often as you want/need

How often will you spend time with parents? If daily, 5 mins away is more important than if weekly, for example.

Always B. You won't always be seeing your parents, but you will always be seeing that soulless suburbia.
