I'm not a fan of fiction books.

Fiction relies on made-up characters, plots, and metaphors to explore aspects of reality and human nature.

I find it much more fun to learn the core ideas presented directly.

This cast was misrepresented and straw-manned in multiple ways.

To clarify:

→ I wasn't being prescriptive.
→ I was being descriptive.
→ I was simply sharing my personal preference.
→ I wasn't implying that fiction is a net negative for the world or that others should stop reading it.

I read fiction books before bed when I need to go to sleep.  Usually mindless crime or spy books.

If I read non-fiction, I start thinking too much before bed

The 'made up' in the OP referred to the additional baggage that surrounds the core ideas.

non-fiction → 'made-up' guesses about reality

fiction → 'made-up' guesses about reality with additional 'made-up' baggage

Short real stories are fine, but I quickly lose interest in long, purely factual ones—especially if they lack any meaningful insight, like gossip.

I think what bores me about fiction is that it's often drawn out into very long narratives.

I always loved fiction. But last few years I can't read it. I tried reading fiction many times in last 2 years but now I have even stopped trying. But I do miss it. I ahve found few light fiction books when I want to be relaxed.
