I am really struggling with moderation in the /books channel. Both @picnic and I spend a considerable amount of time hiding casts, but it is a losing battle against increasingly human AI. I am hesitant to add a fee because it feels important to keep /books a public space that is available to anyone. Suggestions?

Public spaces don’t scale. Add some gating.

library card mint that gates the channel, maybe hypersub you could make a few requirements in order to mint it for free or pay a small subscription fee

Want to add the same @botornot moderation we have in /bot-free ? From a quick scan, a lot of the AI garbage in the feed would be suppressed.

Experiment with a pittance fee for a month (ie 1 WARP, or use hypersub+automod to do a 10 cent monthly pass) Track # spam and # new users posting and compare to previous month. I think « public but need to do an onboarding » is still super useful. You can even pin a post where you gift a pass if they reply

Charging a small cover for /books seems apt

Don’t be hesitant to gate /books because it’s called books.

I'd rather pay a small fee for more meaningful content. I think a gate would benefit real book lovers.

I think you just need more mods tbh! Maybe you could add 3-4, each person gets a one day a week to hide spam. They can check twice a day in the morning and the night time, shouldn’t take any longer than 10-15min. I used to run a clubhouse club of 2.5k with around 5 mods. That felt manageable for us!

at this stage in Farcaster's growth, value extractive farming bots are a very real issue and our moderation tools are nascent. Use them, gate with warps, if costs are prohibiting the public from joining conversations we can do something on the culture side (people can tip warps to users, for example)

Even a nominal fee would see a great reduction in bots I think. It’s only going to get worse with the news on the new funding. Half my Twitter is flooded with how to farm Warpcast posts. Time to gird them loins

gate it somehow. it's been smoother for the philosophy channel ever since I put a mere 20 WARPS pass entry. i know decentralization will require a better design of accessibility to the channels but we have all the emergent options. otherwise, someone who will get bored will just fork another books channel.

It seems to me that you should not worry about the introduction of fees, because already in all areas of our lives we encounter them, it is normal to pay for comfort! There are a lot of bots out there, it's inevitable. But if the fee measure will help us achieve that comfort and quality of content, I'm all for it.

@phil check out /degenx. We are building a product to gate channels with streaming degen instead of paying in one go. Best for channels that don’t want to charge their users a big amount.

Have you tried automod? It does a really great job in degen channel?
