I'm very conscious of screen time; I believe that you need to fight software with software. My latest gadget purchase is Brick: a small physical cube that deactivates my phone. I plan to use Brick over the next week and report on the results. My goal is to have fewer unregretted minutes during the day.

I tried greyscale hoping it would reduce overall time, but I found it just lessened the enjoyment (& dopamine) Haven’t found success myself, excited to see if the physical barrier is enough of a deterrent.

For me out of sight out of mind does the trick. My phone is not in the same room as I, and when going for walks or cafes by myself it isn't on me either. Maybe can also putting the brick somewhere not so easily accesible ^^ Leverage laziness to reduce screentime

You're wise too. Be interested to hear your results. We interviewed technology psychologist Larry Rosen about the impact of technology on our brains just last week - https://pods.media/thinking-on-paper/how-technology-rewires-your-brain

Interesting physical barrier. Delete the app and your $50 brick no longer works is /skininthegame

is the idea that it's harder to unblock stuff because you'd activate the block, then put the brick in a drawer or something? Does this sync to your laptop in anyway?

The idea is to hide this brick somewhere that is hard to access?
