i like the idea of it if i had more $$$. a bit worried about socialization though. might try to find some kind of "pod school", which i think is when a few local families group their kids together and hire a teacher etc

I don't expect school to teach my kids anything other than social skills .. until the age of 7-8. I can teach STEM and Art at home or through other means. The sad part is that the school is the worst place to learn social skills. It's so random and it relies on good teacher and good group of other students. It's definitely a dilemma for me.

Assorted thoughts: • Wife & I both went to public school. Debated home/school *hard*, ultimately choosing public. • We live in an excellent district and yet have hs’d 2/3 boys for 7th grade. • We have many hs friends & it’s highly dependent on the system & community you choose (I wanted a classical co-op; still do tbh). Some of those friends struggle with lack of schedule or energy; others flourish in the freedom. • Those friends say we’re the most homeschooly public school family they know: we try to shape with the best of both worlds. • Be clear on why you’re doing it either way. Circumstances— or the why — might change over the years. Re-evaluate yearly if it’s doing what it should.

Feels like this partly depends on the school and the broader community Was fortunate enough to study in a private school with a great crowd, feels like it played a big part of who I am right now. The social interactions isn’t also something that can be taught and is based on experience I’d put my future kids up in school if I got the chance
