When Trump won in 2016 I recall people being devastated and shocked, there was a physically palpable sense that something insane had happened. This time it couldn't feel more normal in general – most muted election of my lifetime.

Interesting. Personally, I feel a much stronger sense of foreboding this go around than 2016. I think the state of the world foreign-policy wise and the lack of accountability for his actions after the 2020 election are what bother me most.

the nation survived the last time -- so, with the economy feeling like it's not working for most americans, that's enough for most to look past his shenanigans and roll the dice also, my own 2 cents is that a lot of white male america feels like the system has been rigged against them and trump appeals to that

People voted against him are holding on to the idea that he'll change his cabinet every few months like last time and his administrative ineptitude will forestall too much damage. People who voted for him do not seem to be driven by die-hard Trumpism this time but by not wanting to vote establishment.

Crazy. Maybe a combo of shock and being used to it by now.
