Two months on from Reddit killing it's API: - Personal usage has dropped ~95% - Completely off my phone, only view occasionally from search - Warpcast has oriented around channels, perfect replacement I was a hardcore user of over 10 years, now I go days without using the site at all

Also note: not saying this matters to Reddit from the business perspective. They've probably barely noticed a drop in traffic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is exactly me! I still use reddit rarely when I Google someone a result from Reddit is good. But the days of browsing are gone. This is my community now 🫶

Lemmy with Voyager and Sync is already the best alternative.

I like Warpcast channels, but something about it doesn’t quite replace Reddit for me. Maybe the UI, the fact that it’s not 100% anon, not sure

I have used it twice since Apollo shutdown, once because it was a top search on news the other because it was a bookmark on fixing my unfi system.

Same experience here. I only sometimes visit the desktop website now. I miss Apollo but also nice to spend time on other things

Been a reddutor since the beginning, noticed its "decline" pretty early on. I would love for a reddit replacement. Gm.xyz seemed like a logical fit, but it's deader than dead. Warpcast has filled a nice niche for me, but man I *need* collapsable threads. Twitter style I don't care for much

I mean ok, killing your API is one thing, but confiscating popular subreddit that go private in protest that's a new level of fuck you... That's one hard lesson that unless the infrastructure uses your storage and computation, your data is never your data.

yep. me too, used to easily spend 5 hours a day on Reddit, soon as the API protest started, uninstalled the 3rd party app I used, and stopped visiting Reddit on desktop. Now I just read hacker news, warpcast, and twitter, tho twitter is probably gonna suffer a similar fate soon.

I've been going weeks without opening Reddit. Half of the time, it's by accident, lmao. When you put up walls, you send a message.

We have a long way to go until it is has communities as robust as Reddit's, but I like what we have going here. I think there are a number of layup features that could make the communities feel more robust here. I have always just used Reddit raw. What was it about Apollo that was so great?
