Setting Goals vs. Creating a System When it comes to getting things done, do you focus more on setting specific goals or creating systems to stay consistent? Strong goals can be a powerful motivator, but without a plan to execute, they can be easy to lose sight of. This is an area where I need practice. My head is full of good ideas (I think) and goals to achieve but when it comes to getting them done, sometimes I fall short. So, I thought this would be a great topic of the day, and one that I could hopefully learn a thing or two from. How do you handle this? Do you create a plan to execute on your goals or do you have another process? Tell me about it!

systems for sure, as long as they align w the outcomes we’re going after i find they work better also been thinking a lot about how we often think of goals as things we don’t have, but the goal could sometimes be to appreciate and maintain what we already do have

I focus more on creating systems to stay consistent. Goals are great for direction, but systems keep me on track every day, making progress automatic. It’s about building habits that lead to the outcome I want, instead of just aiming for the outcome itself.

I set general goals at first. At first achieving new goals is likely inefficient if you haven't done it before. And generally I learn along the way how to achieve them. When a process to achieve them becomes clear, I try to codify and refine the process so that is easy to follow. Once you have an established process to achieve a specific goal it's easy to make it routine.

I used to be a big goals guy. But more recently I've been struck by how non-goal/system oriented people like James Clear and Tim Ferris are and I'm trying to work that direction. A couple weeks ago I heard Nick Saban (Bama coach) talking about how goals are too results oriented (winning a game) and that creates anxiety and you need to be process oriented (do my job on this play) and that struck me as well. I'm not good at this. I have lots of ideas and I'm not always great at implementing. But I'm struck by these process/system approaches and trying to be kinder to myself and just keep making progress in the process/systems. But I still think about goals 🤷‍♂️

I've always been a goals person, but as I've gotten older systems appeal more, & I do think they create more consistency overall. I agree with you ideas, my head is so full of ideas I'm drowning in creativity. I need to work on my messaging and a whole host of other things. But I am a maker. But I am currently trying be a more systems oriented person though. 😆 LFG!!! Let's try at least. Be well 🙏 Success Fame!

A system i use a lot is to drop the big hairy tasks first thing in the morning, no distraction, no email not FC, instant start with whatever this task is. Typically some deep work lasting for 2-3 hours. No break, just flow. Later in the day, when my mind starts to fade, but is still fit enough to plough through the many smaller tasks, I go for a second walk, and then again, focus on 3-5 small tasks w/o any distraction.

For me it's creating sytem it is because I'm a consistent person. I'm more into striving my goals or finding ways to to achieve the things/goals that I want. If setting only a goal and you're not persistent or consistent on it, you can't achieve that goal.

I have a proves to perform a review of my goals every 2 weeks. bigger goals require a task list. is there a methodology you use to document them?

I totally agree with what you said above!! I have a very convoluted way of working to the outside observer, but when you get inside of my brain, everything makes sense, I promise. I have a 3 month wall planner on my studio wall, that I look at religiously. I also use an app on my phone/iPad/mac called Things where I can put everything down into different projects. I have one for everything like my car and work stuff, but also stuff like channels, /success posts and all my /poidh ideas and everything. Whenver I'm on the go, I write them on the app, and then when I get home, I put them on the wall calendar, and I work with Do dates, and not Due dates. and so every rise I look at the wall calendar, and that's what I'll be doing that day, more or less I also find it helpful to review my progress regularly and adjust my plans as needed.

It’s a great question! While goals give direction, systems provide the consistent steps to reach them. I believe in blending both: setting inspiring goals but focusing more on daily systems that keep me on track. Goals motivate, but systems ensure progress. Ultimately, it’s the small, consistent actions that build up to big achievements.

When I make a goal , at first I set some plan and see what's the disadvantage and advantages I'll get After that at first I try to solve all disadvantages and then I process to complete my goal. As a result, nothing can be incompleted. You can try this sir.

Sometimes I feel like procrastination of certain things but i usually focus more on process than result as it’s a learning step. I usually fragment a lot and take small steps at a time. It helps to stay consistent and balance the work and life well. I don’t do it so many things at a time because it is exhausting. I usually do 0.1 % , sometimes 5 % but it depends on mindset. I usually keep things on smaller rate to keep progress! Atomic Habits: - by James! Following this steps and it’s helping me! Try and let me know if this works.

I have similar struggles. They involve setting too many goals too spread out and 7 things 92-95% done. Or, I set goals really high to where they sound unachievable, then smash through, exceeding my goal. I don't like too much structure 'cause I am creative and a critical free thinker, which has led to my biggest successes, but some form of accountability is good for me. I choose to aim high because that is how I find out what I am truly capable of, which so far has been a fair amount. Right now I am in the hardest time of my life hands down, with no close second. 90% is someone else's doing. The 10% is mine is because I am choosing to learn all new ways of monetization to ensure I can be the Dad my son needs regardless of what form that takes as I battle the Borderline Bombshell and her barrage of lies and multiple personalities. But she will not ruin my son's life, nor mine much longer. The GOAL is getting him free of her mental illness and Full Custody and I have every intention of exceeding that GOAL.
