It's hard to give Japanese restaurant recommendations because my favorites are all these small mom and pop joints. Today's choice was an "Okinawan Soba" specialist. The soup is light but the pork is much heavier than your standard Japanese fare. The rice on the left is also a local speciality called juushii.

That's such an interesting comment, and when we were visiting Japan, I very much found the same. Often the best joints were absolutely low key, smol places. They often didn't speak any English, but it was fine because the menus were lit and had great pictures. Besides, all food there is amazing!
