Crypto VC says it's bad for people to exercise because he's mad there are no explicit losers. Wants to bring gatekeeping back to sports "there are some things that should be reserved for those who compete. Whether it’s status, elite apparel, media, or the corners of the internet where serious amateur athletes congregate, we need spaces and signifiers that celebrate the legitimacy of athletic competition without apology." jaydrainjr.substack.com/p/make-adult... Bro just buy your Tracksmith, flex getting into Boston and go. Exercisers are still the VAST MINORITY and you already feel so threatened by the hobbyists you dumped 500 words out about how they should be excluded from stuff?

Terrible take. I'm having a hard time steel-manning this. Like, maybe I agree that the vibes are generally wrong in a lot of health culture... But nah. Weirdos running in fancy clothes is 10x better than any other hobby they'd be blowing money & time on. (except weightlifting)

midcurving hard, only ppl who don't actually compete would say stuff like this if you care about competition and have that athletic dog in you you wouldn't be writing dumb shit like this, you'd just be focusing on getting better lol. idk any serious athlete (whether pro or self proclaimed) who shares this view

Maybe play soccer? The over the hill league that I’ve played in over the years brings a high level of competition for all age groups. Has promotion and relegation between divisions. Plenty of competition, a few too many fights etc. Could care less with how others choose to pursue their athleticism, it’s all good.

"The collective obsession with community-building, self-care, social validation, and a growing quest to make everyone happy all the time is ruining sports." This...this is engagement farming, right?

Totally expected to dislike this based on your review but then realized this guy is irked by the same people that irk me — just for slightly different reasons. My primary target are the cycling unitard people who leave their helmets on while they click clack around coffee shops and breweries.

I appreciate your POV, but I'm not sure that's a fair read. Below is what stood out most to me - and I agree with the sentiment. TLDR: The obsession with inclusivity and self-validation in modern athletics has diluted the essence of competition, turning sports into participation rituals where effort is praised over excellence, undermining the drive for true achievement.
