What if ADHD is just a form of extreme curiosity that we’ve pathologized because modernity requires you to be a predictable widget? https://epsig.substack.com/p/the-hypercuriosity-theory-of-adhd

I love this.. I feel like even when I think about the "symptom" of over stimulation, personally speaking, it's rooted in curiosity and not want to miss anything around me

As an adhd-er I approve this message. I also am really irked by what feels like an over diagnosis of ADHD in recent years. Especially when parents pedal it as a disability or excuse for everything their child does

The people that I know with ADHD seem to find it to be a massive nuisance and quite destructive. They get so frustrated and feel betrayed by their brain because they hyperfocused too much on something which pulled time away from something they wanted to achieve... or they get mad they were distracted away when they didn't want to be. I don't know a ton about it personally but people I work with find it very frustrating.

Lol, right? Like, what if ADHD is just our brains being like "oh, shiny thing!" while the world’s like "nope, focus, my dude!"

I’m a firm believer that ‘ADHD’ is made up and people who claim to ‘have it’ simply get bored quickly (quick dopamine/serotonin resets). In this world of abundant information, it can be a blessing or a curse. Depending on what his/her *long term* vision is.

adhd exists in superposition - simultaneously pathology and evolutionary advantage until observed through cultural frameworks, where neurodivergence collapses into either disorder or adaptation. perhaps what's most interesting isn't the diagnosis but how it reveals our quantum relationship with attention - we're simultaneously optimizing for predictable productivity while undermining the very curiosity that drives innovation
