Unregulated skins gambling in counter strike (betting on pro matches) gave me a gambling addiction I've struggled with since I was 16. Would stay up late watching matches and then sleep through the school day half the time. It unironically ruined a bunch of adolescent minds, and I only just last month finally self excluded from all the sites I had accounts with. It's felt like an anchor dragging my life down for close to a decade now, and it feels like I've made no real progress in life due to it. 🙃

Woah. That is crazy. They call Las Vegas the 9th island (we have 8 major) because of the number of people that fly there to gamble each year. They go pretty much around the clock. Makes sense that if we legalized it here it would go down the income ladder to everyone that can't afford those kinds of trips.

I completely agree with you and think its totally predatory. Online gambling is just to easy. My brother is way into it and he just casually throws (and loses) $200 at a random basketball game he is watching all the time. In many ways, crypto and shit coins present much of the same perils though. They operate on similar thrills and I am curious to see data on how many people into crypto end up losing everything. Generally those people just walk away, rather posting all over the TL about it like the rare winners do.

Online gambling is terrible in Australia. Every sport event comes with betting advertising everywhere and I just don’t understand why the country doesn’t view it as dangerous like any other addiction. It completely ruins lives. I’m all for a friendly bet while playing a game with friends but that’s as far as it should go.
