how do you explain the universal post-COVID time acceleration phenomenon? do you feel this way? why do you think that is? like how is it summer 2025? i understand time speeds up as you age, but this is something different—even the younger generations are experiencing it

always has been...feels stronger when you give the collective an event to anchor to, like March 2020 lockdowns

i actually think that's how time always works. covid just put a big "pause" on things for 1 year, so now we notice it.

the shocks from COVID knocked a lot of things that were being kept in an unstable equilibrium by inertia out of balance

i think it is also related to ai and crypto. both are technologies that actually make what we used to do more efficient, hence there is a perception of time that is accelerated and the normal functioning of our brain doesn’t change proportionally to them

this is hard to test – the fact that younger generations experience it doesn't really say anything (as we experience time speeding up at all ages as we grow) i think it just feels different because lockdowns were a complete disruption of how we experience our daily lives, so it's easy for our brains to say there's a before and after

it’s wild. yesterday realized brexit happened 9 years ago (almost a decade what!?) and covid is 5 years old. how? why?! 😫

People got locked inside on their phones/internet and started paying way more attention to the news cycle for the first time. Because there were way more people online there are way more collisions which means things appear to be going faster. COVID had 2nd and 3rd order consequences that created dramatic changes in the world and the way information flows, so much more of it started going online and that was definitely means there is simply more news happening on a daily basis.

I've been acutely aware of the time that's passed. A lot happened during and primarily having two kids during that time hasn't had the same "lost years" impact (beyond the "where did the time go" as you realize how much your kids have grown)

We never left spring of 2020; thus we are in a previous moment which seems ahead of it’s time because the calendar [a human construct - not a physics construct] shows April 2025
