There's a concept called "WEIRD bias" in psychology and social science: we make broad claims about human behavior based on experiments conducted on Western, educated, industrialized, rich, democratic subjects. I think most developers are weird, too. In what ways is the average developer different from most users?

A few things that come to mind: desktop first, high bandwidth, don't see ads, upgrade often. More on WEIRD people here: https://www2.psych.ubc.ca/~henrich/pdfs/Weird_People_BBS_final02.pdf

That's why Zuck gave his devs cheap Android phones and sent them to Africa. You just can't understand some bugs until you actually experience them. (this is also why I think Dan should use Android Warpcast app for at least a week)

this is just anecdotal, but do many developers skip lunch for flow state?

My tolerance for the jankyness of apps is proportional to how janky the code I wrote that day was. I reckon most consumers are less forgiving

Developers are more willing to spend time learning a software interface, tinkering around to figure out what to do with it, trying different things when they get stuck or confused, etc. Everyday users will not do that. They are afraid to click the wrong button and unlikely to try something that they do not understand.

Developers tend to approach problems logically and structurally. They are accustomed to solving issues like code debugging and system optimization.

Most drvs are focused on tye solutions they are providing and not the problem. The average user is fixated on a problem, that's a pain point. In order to be successful, know the problem you are crafting that solutions for. Be obsessed with the problem and craft out a solutions. Don't do it the other way round, where you dish out a solution and hope it solves users problems.

Haha, I can see what you meanโ€ฆ Iโ€™m not onebut I've noticed that developers tend to be tech-savvy, analytical, and problem-solving-oriented. But I'm sure there are many users who share these traits tooโ€ฆthe WEIRD bias can be applied to devs as well!"
