i have a ton more respect for a dev with a linux (or win) machine than for a dev on a macbook because this dev is either too poor to buy a macbook (hungry) or too experienced and knows the value of things if a dev uses a macbook i also expect them to write python and be happy with it you do you

I've been contemplating to get a mac (been a win user my whole life) but when I was trialing with one I didn't really like how I was losing the productivity shortcuts I had on windows (window tiling, cursor movement). Mac is a nice light weight casual machine but for dev (and sheets) I'd still prefer a win machine.

I have more respect for devs who use vim. I donโ€™t use vim.

Believe me, if the iPhone dev tools would run on Linux, I would never have bought a Mac.

What about a dev that runs production infra on an old MacBook at home

I run arch (btw) on my thinkpad and my desktop. Iโ€™m seriously considering a macbook to replace my aging laptop. Itโ€™s the only way I can do local inference on powerful LLMs with a machine I can carry. Iโ€™m thinking Iโ€™d prefer local LLMs and SSH for linux vs the other way around.

I'm a follower; I got a mac because that was the standard at work. But, tbh I find it easier to use my personal windows machine when it comes to coding. it's just made for it.

I have a ton of respect for devs who write good code and programs disregarding their personal choice of the dev env. The laptop or tools donโ€™t make the dev.

this is a retarded take. The most genius devs I know use MacBooks to code.
