In fitness training, the most challenging aspect is keeping up with patience and consistency. I'm curious, what strategies do people use to stay disciplined and motivated ?

I appreciate gym community. I like hanging out and bro’ing out with my buds. I have someone program my workouts, In some respects I just show up and lift. It’s like checking off a ToDo list.

Taking time to find the workouts you actually enjoy doing. I struggled with a regular exercise routine for years and finally found an activity I really enjoy (Pilates) that is fun for me. I look forward to it now so it's not challenging for me to keep it up

I don't have discipline or motivation to work out, no more than I do to brush my teeth or wake for work. It's just my routine. Otherwise I have health issues, get overweight, become weak, etc. If you don't brush, you get issues, your breath smells, etc. Same thing. It's not motivation, it's just living.

However vain it is, I’m much happier when I look at my naked self in the mirror and like what I see. That keeps me motivated in the long term. Short term motivation is the constant reminder I always feel better immediately after I’m done. And more energy for the day. You could use a mantra for that reminder.

Writing on notebook my weekly activities helps me to stay consistent. Sometimes if I'm not in a mood, I just do something easier like walking 10kms or do jumping ropes.

I genuinely enjoy training first and foremost Finding exercise you genuinely enjoy helps with consistency So does identifying a meaningful WHY. Meaningful reasons for exercise help ppl “find the time” or prioritize it https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1469029223001395

Depended on my life era and drivers, but there’s always been a pressure from both sides of my intrinsic motivation Negative: “If you don’t go, you’ve just proven that you’re the piece of shit you think you are” Positive: “You are improving your quality of life in every tomorrow w literally every rep”

Keep a pair of “goal pants” that are uncomfortable when you have not met that goal. Wear them for a full day every two weeks

From Atomic Habits, I've found using identity based habits super powerful. i.e. I (want to) identify as a fit/athletic/healthy person... what kind of habit does that person have? They exercise regularly. Define the self image, then adapt the behaviors to match, and the score will take care of itself.

When I first started going to the gym I would go regardless of how I was feeling and if I really didn’t want to workout I would just go, do one lift and leave, it helped build the habit of going to the gym each day.
