As a web3 startup founder and someone who works with startups every day on their marketing strategy I think that all founders need to understand their GTM and marketing plans before they hire anyone else. So I agree in a sense but also it’s misleading to think that this meant that Coinbase did no marketing for 6yrs

I think yes but also - hire comms/marketing from your community when early. Don’t chase ex CMOs of major brands just because you can afford them. Transplanting web2 marketing on a fledgling crypto company can/will fk the whole thing up

Have a mission. Stick to it. Clearly communicate it via the product. Create a feedback loop. Incentivize network effects. You don’t need a marketing person to do marketing. But if you aren’t doing these things you might need one.
