Why do you trust Apple more than Google? Why not consider another service such as Proton instead?

Push back on FBI e2ee in iMessage Advanced data protection I think Google is as good or better at the security, but ultimately their business model requires more compromises. And yes I know Apple has an ad biz.

Given this I'd think Proton would be a better option than iCloud, for email at least. Wouldn't it? I think iCould is definitely a good option for people who live in Apple's ecosystem, for sure. I've considered switching to Proton but I don't use my personal emails enough to justify the move. I use Hey for the UX.

Not to pick a fight, but disagree with: "I think Google is as good or better at the security, but ultimately their business model requires more compromises." Apple has an advantage since they also control the hardware and app distro. Google's latest misstep: https://twitter.com/mysk_co/status/1651021165727477763

Didn't Apple push back e2ee on iCloud for several years because the FBI didn't want them to do it? (And even now it's not on the by default) https://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-fbi-icloud-exclusive-idUSKBN1ZK1CT

fwiw, the Apple ad biz is net new revenue but the underlying model is still privacy focused and not _hot_ w/ traditional/obtrusive advertisers which says something. Unlike privacy budgets Chrome/GAds want to do
