Considering moving my personal email domain to iCloud. I trust Apple more than Google. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212514

Curious if you'd trust them with your / your family’s health data?

Why do you trust Apple more than Google? Why not consider another service such as Proton instead?

My personal email and file storage is living off either of the two main players, on a German provider proven to be reliable and resilient. Privacy protection feels more trustworthy, and am happy to pay a EUR a month for the peace of mind. Good move, Dan.

Been using fastmail and it’s been pretty good. Let’s you easily create aliases. Auto masked email with 1pass plug-in works well too

As someone who worked in marketing at Apple, I can unequivocally tell you they take privacy as seriously as they claim. It was difficult to target our own customers thanks to those protections. Could be annoying as an employee, but made me an even more hardcore customer.

I’ve did this a couple of years back. Handles custom Aliases well. The paid plans sync with other needs. Simple subscription management. Peace of mind

What about the risk of apple shutting your account down for some random reason? It’s the reason I don’t use their password manager for example. Simplicity and integration is great until you’re totally fucked when something happens that nukes everything… I totally agree with you re apple > goog tho

Moved a year ago for similar reasons. Issues with Apple: - DKIM validation is iffy. Lots of outbound to SPAM. - No DMARC - No BIMI - Make sure you copy all the DNS changes. It's a pain to find them again. - No notification on changes and updates. They revised a TXT rule and only found it investigating SPAM issues.

Agree re: trust and considered but then moved everything to Proton. Might revisit decision b/c calendar sharing w/ family has become an issue. Apple also has Hide My Email on custom domains!

i'd think Apple's behaviour in China, app store practices, and browser choice would be enough to make web3 people prefer google over apple

trying skiff i am on the other end of 'i don't trust small companies with email' i personally don't trust any big company with data including email and sufficiently believe (because of human nature): if they have data they will use it, they might just do a better job of hiding it
