"Warpcast needs to do a better job with threads" What does that concretely mean? How is X / Twitter better? e.g.

It’s not that Twitter is better / worse It’s that threads and long deep conversations are such a heavy reason people love FC and connect via Farcaster So helping surface these conversations and enabling them with a great UI is the ask

i am not a product person but if warpcast is going to be for communities, then the X / Twitter comparison (for broadcast) is perhaps not the most productive nor informative. reddit is good at threads. iMessage has great thread UX with multiple participants, imo. supercast better than warpcast.

Rather than give you a grand theory, here’s some specific UX feedback: “show more” shouldn’t collapse “the main thread” Deciding what is the main thread is a thorny problem (I’d be happy to chat about it, since I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this in the context of email threads), but here’s a specific example. Clicking into this sub-reply is clearly an extension of a conversation between two participants. Yet, it’s hidden underneath two subsequent “show more” buttons. These should automatically be expanded if there are no other branching threads.

i think when people say this, they’re usually referring to a tweetstorm from a single user, not replies. however, you could argue farcaster’s approach is “making a car rather than a faster horse” for caststorms, starting with frames, longer casts, etc.

I would love being able to quote a portion of a person's post within my post.

I can see an AI-enabled interface that takes a long thread, creates a summary (even better, a personalized summary, based on my follows and activity), and allows me to dive deeper. Ex: > @dwr.eth asked how Warpacast could do a better job with threads. @samuellhuber.eth, @ted and others pointed out how Reddit is doing a good job at it. @king and others pointed out a few small UI improvements that could make a difference. Many users brought up pinning casts in channel threads. Then allow me to click on each sentence to dive deeper, down to cast level.

I don't see anything wrong with threads on WC except for 2-level deep casts don't show metadata nor "Show more" so I might miss an interesting discussion. I see "Show more" as "more replies to level 1 cast" here ted's level 1, your's level 2. i can figure. gonna continue on the UX in a thread here.

One suggestion to improve the QOL of thread creators and readers: allow the “Show more” link to expand in place. I just wrote a long 25-part thread (https://warpcast.com/aviationdoctor.eth/0x93cf9215) and had to keep every cast under 320 chars so it wouldn’t trigger the “Show more” option, because using that on long threads makes for an unpleasant reading experience

hi, armchair social media app developer here 👋 It would be nice to get rid of the padding on the left. It's just a distraction to the eyes. spread the buttons wide in equal proportions so it doesn't conflict with the text above it. it's the little things boss, in a thread full of content you want to skim through you don't want those tiny oscillations in the user's attention i could be bullshitting though but there's my 2 cents.

It means people find frustrations when using your UI to read threads, and I doubt it’s a deciding factor between using X and Farcaster on a particular day as the communities are different, so I’m not sure where you’re going with the implied argument As for a specific frustration - opening up quoted replies in long conversation chains shows you the root cast and makes you scroll down far to the reply

It's easier to write threads on X. Threads became popular during the pandemic as a method for content creators to write medium-to-long-form content. They were used heavily in the crypto/NFT space for announcements, educational content, and zachXBT's grifter takedowns. X made these easier to create by adding the "+" button at the bottom of the post-creation interface to continue your thread (as opposed to having to reply to yourself every time). It's not as necessary on Warpcast because you allow for more characters per post than X does. They're barely popular on X anymore, to be fair.

It’s harder here to see the whole thread, you have to click on each cast. Imo you should be able to open the whole thread on the second cast

X isn’t better. But Reddit is. Things get buried too deep and then I can’t easily tell if I’ve replied or not because it’s not easy to expand it all and scroll through. It FEELs like we are only meant to reply to top level casts and not go any deeper.

one concrete thing is when expanding a threaded convo the ui jumps all the way back up to the top

clicking into a deep reply should jump to that cast, giving smaller context before and after. not jump to the top
