I don't understand the negativity. We're giving the top 100 casters $5 in USDC every day. No other conditions or gotchas. Just a small thank you for contributing something valuable. We also tried to make the algorithm more friendly to smaller accounts (by normalizing followers). (He has claimed he muted me, yet...)

I didn't read this as negative -- read it as lamenting how crypto has distorted users' perceptions of how wealth is generated and distributed to creators within a network If you're primed to receive vast sums of money for engaging in mania, it's harder to anchor against modest "dividends" in stables Uniswap also got dragged when they acquired Genie and airdropped USDC to users rather than UNI or another token

okay in @timdaub.eth's defense, i don't think he was being critical of farcaster but rather of the crypto space generally all of these memecoins and tipping tokens that are driven by speculation and often pump have made a group of people go "ugh, $5? really?" the issue isn't warpcast, the issue is crypto at large lol

perhaps there's underlying beef between y'all that i'm not privy to but i feel like he's just making a comment on how skewed the perspective of the average user in crypto is. the short-term, get-rich-quick mindset. in reality, $5/day for a year would net you enough to fly first class to Hawaii or take a modest trip overseas. few have the attention span or wherewithal to do anything but jeet instant cash in this space though.

Oh boy, I don't get this at all. It's a small thank you to the users who make this platform what it is. It's like your boss giving you a Dunks gift card at Christmas? Why wouldn't you just say "thank you"? Warpcast already provides me with a functioning web3 native platform to promote my work on. What's with the wild entitlement?

I did not perceive this as negative. It's true that real $5 may seem very little compared to imaginary $1,000,000, and it's also true that many of us in this space have been trained to expect the later. However, I find what you're doing is great, for two reasons: 1. Money does not grow on trees. If someone thinks their 200 character banger is worth $10k/month, they can try publishing in the NYT, or find a sponsor, it shouldn't be hard. 2. The model is scalable, and could work without any change with $500/day/user if someone thinks it's worth funding/sponsoring it.

For me, $5/day is enough to pay my phone/internet bill each month, which means I can keep creating content, which makes it a fun extra bit of flow cuz it all adds up. Just like on other platforms, it's not the only way to get a bit of flow flowing, but it *is* really nice to have recognition from the platform itself that you're doing good work. Incentives don't have to be huge to be rational motivators.

I didn’t read this as negative on you; to me, it reads as negative on casino crypto culture where gamblers are cranky about actual real money and happier with a lottery ticket

I've been very tired of yet another memecoin launching just to obscure the fact that you're getting tipped half a penny. I think tim's take was true several years ago, but I suspect people will increasingly be tired of this. At the very least, the 5 USDC approach is more honest and novel. Normalizing followers was also a good move, feels like you've listened to a lot of past feedback. IMO solid experiment.

i thought it was a jab at hypocrisy of the users for perceiving value of $5 of a meme token more than $5 of USDC and not a jab at y'all for the program. that being said i have no idea what that first line means. so is it that part?

The negativity I’ve seen is only around who it will be paid to, ie the big accounts. But you’ve mentioned the algo will include smaller accounts and it’s literally only day 1 so we’ve got to just see how it plays out. I’ve no issues with the amount or currency FYI. Free money is free money.

There is a psychological aspect to monetizing work. If a friend helps me move into a place and I reward them with a six pack of beer, that hits differently than if I pay them $12. That said, the dynamic of social media is different. Maybe it's because I'm not concerned with the ROI of my casts (and, if I were, hoo, boy, I'm a bad investment), but I don't feel like a person should cast / tweet / post for the expectation of direct compensation. Not saying people won't try to farm, but the qDAUs aren't likely to drop off because they didn't get enough free money.

with 4.20 or 6.9 USDC there is no negativity, sir.. I do not think that the payment is a bad idea.. but I could agree with tim.. anyway, I read that it is just an experiment.. these numbers may grow in the future.. attached to network growing.. like incentives or dividends for top users.. or just like someone said.. with sponsors or whatever.. sounds cool.. and makes sense to start with an small amount.. ...or implement a way to receive them in a random coin 😅

What is the idea behind this experiment? Is it indirectly related to getting more growth? I don't think the idea is only to reward good content!
