Serious response to a maybe not so serious question: I think the answer is a diminishing scale depending on how far removed we are from 9/11 I was still in the military at the time and recall freaking out the first time I saw a commercial flight near our base because I didn't know they'd opened that airspace and was afraid it would get shot down by air defense units People at airports were probably similarly gunshy for a while

my dad and I reported some last time I flew, and the airport did precisely nothing about it lol. the guy eventually came back from the food court like 30 minutes later. I was gobsmacked that he had just casually left his bag unattended but it wasn't anything nefarious

It’s like the old days (pre-2001) when they used to ask questions like if your bag has ever left your possession. Everyone would say no anyway, so what’s the point of asking.

I actually just witnessed this... but it was an airline employee who was being hassled by a passenger... the moment the passenger walked away from his baggage to go to the service counter, the airline employee went and reported it 🤣

My Uber driver left my gym bag on the curb at Newark one time. I was able to track it with AirTags and it was there for 30 minutes until someone brought it to the airline counter. I expected to pull up with the bomb crew inspecting it.
