Before starting to build @highlight in earnest, @emodi spent six months doing market research to identify what the crypto landscape really needed. As a lover of digital art, the answer he landed on was: YouTube for NFTs. Minus the adversarial relationship between YouTube and creators, because Highlight prioritizes artists' ownership of their own means of production. It's the kind of platform-creator relationship that isn't possible in web2, but should be table stakes for web3.

I've been working in crypto since [checks notes] 2018 and I've never made any appreciable money because 1) I don't have the stomach for active trading (granted, this equally protects me from getting rekt) or the free capital to hodl at scale and 2) I'm always spending it on shit to support people's projects 😂
