If we were to work on channels as a developer lego, what should we improve? Decentralizing existing primitive doesn’t drive network growth. So would have to offer something new / compelling.

Add customization options to channels. Right now there is nothing to differentiate /success from /degen besides a title and channel description and some hidden rules. - Can we get banners ala Reddit or Facebook pages? It doesn’t have to be huge or gawdy - something classy and clean but that lets us add some customization to our channels. - We could really use an explore type tab for channels and communities where people are having fun and spending a lot of time. Similar to the explore tab for composer actions/etc. - Not sure if this is technically feasible but sub-channels would be dope. For example; success has a subgroup for education - it would be awesome if we could segment educational content away from other content. - Bring back something that shows top casters. I know you said it could be gamed but it’s still a cool feature. Gives people a reason to spend time in a channel. I have also asked in the success GC so will come back with more feedback.

APIs to (1) follow channels and (2) create channels, so they become fully usable in other apps if you want, you can check if app_fid has a registered signer for the user on the network without necessarily decentralizing the channel primitive itself; that’ll ensure that the user has at least given the app _some_ permissions and if yes, you can then let them access channel APIs

allowing channels created outside of WC to show up in warpcast—example if i made @event urls into parent_urls and let ppl cast at them, that wouldn’t show up in WC today right?

Read-gated channels Main feed moderation isn’t enough since most people view casts via home feed anyway, feels like it defeats the point a bit of automod and similar tools Also more of social is moving to private group chats but the downside is limited discoverability and too many notifications without an algo feed

honestly hard to think of a use case for channels as a lego besides like using a channel to create a custom client, ie only pull casts from a particular channel. i'd say give the option to remove the "recent" tab so they can act as a publicly viewable gated forum by using things like your hamcaster token, or moxie fan token, or any other token for that matter. for example you can only post in /deployer if you have my caster token. you combine 3 separate products to create a friendtech/alfafrens gated forum experience. caster token as the key, automod for moderation, warpcast for the forum.

don’t think the developer interface is lacking, I think it just needs a kickstart from the mothership in terms of being centered in the experience show me a twitter style sidebar on the home feed with AI-generated summaries of the recent discourse in my channels

1/ If channels are the ultimate communities playground, then add a mix of Web3/traditional community-related features, eg gating comes to mind based on activity or paid (earned vs paid analogy). 2/ Spaces-like audio events. It's time, no?

Easy to use and native pay gate system that doesn’t require using a third party. Hyperfluid and AF and moxie are an unnecessary layer imo

the focus should be decreasing barriers to grow new communities 1. add API endpoints for - channel creation - new user invites 2. sponsor account + channel creation fees for devs using these APIs why? new communities should grow bottom up via channel clients devs come for the tool (unruggable APIs) and stay for the network (persistent social graph) users will also come for the tool (channel client) and stay for the network (other channel clients) example: if im building a marketplace, i want an easy way to tap into currently active affinity groups and create new ones my users would care about being part of their affinity groups, and maybe some would discover/create new ones to buy from/sell to if im building a facebook equivalent, i want the same thing as a dev my users would care about joining their fraternity group, their sports team group, their university group, etc. in either case, account creation and channel creation must be seamless

Let channel mods manage their main feed algorithmically by opening to 3rd party provider - great place to start that experiencementation! Have a « create/join channel » button on every website for people to follow on the conversation - maybe a @metamask snap? Turn channel circles in Warpcast to stories about top posts from specific channels- basically if you are trending in one, you get some love by being on prime real estate. Better make possible to set dynamically by channel mod.

This is so true ser some ideas: - make channel creation "cheap", which we are already experimenting by allowing anyone to create channels (although not indexed by warpcast). This is not even about decentralizing channels but making it less gated. 26 dollars adds additional frictions. - regarding making something compelling, currently channels is merely a different filter for feeds. So we could experiment with making it more discord and less twitter. or in someway associate with groupcast with channel is also one way to make it less twitter. current channel --> twitter with hashtag filter channel but more forums ish --> reddit channel but more chatty --> discord/telegram either way could make channel much more interesting and differentiated from the main feeds

Slash/remove "dead" channels. Focus on promoting viral casts in one channel in the main feed. I feel like I miss a lot of channels. It seems overwhelming at times.

Running a successful channel should make money for the host and the most active members. Would be cool if Merkle were to subsidize the most popular/growing channels in a similar fashion to earning 5 USDC for being a top Caster. Payouts would go to a channel address to be shared amongst hosts and moderators to create an incentive for better coordination. Would lean a lot more into composability and making channels very easily support as many onchain actions and transactions as possible. Right now there's not a big enough distinction between a brand account and a channel. Channels should drive onchain revenue and make it seamless to plug in all the various ways creators monetize today. If a Channel is featured on Onchain Summer and is generating ETH from mints - how does that route through the channel instead of directly to one address on the side. The channel is the home base and treasury for a community - every onchain action should include it in some way shape or form.

Sub ephemeral channel tied to a main channel. Idea and client specific. Sports. NBA channel but create an ephemeral channel for the finals. It will be essentially a live feed of the game. Spaces. Tavern chat for /latenightcrew Creator. AMA chat with an artist Client idea, make it all pretty with this ephemeralness. Also throw in a wiki to channels
