The meta right now seems to be "the right way to build". There is no right way to build a company, other than: 1. Build something people want 2. Charge (someone) money for it 3. Don't break the law The last two are easy, the first one is hard.

> Build something people want This itself is 3 things: 1. Product 2. Team 3. Market For big outcomes, only the 3rd one matters. cf. https://pmarchive.com/guide_to_startups_part4.html

Most successful web 2 startups broke law - Uber (taxi regulations) - AirBnb (hotel regulations) - Facebook (privacy regulations) - Binance (sanctions) - Coinbase (SEC) - Alibaba (founder crushed by CCP)

What do the current web3/crypto non-dev users really want? The answer is simple: gamble and fast money. As I joined the space, I thought they want decentralization and true asset ownership. Had to find out by building companies in this space how little they really care (and also VCs, who only want you to drop token).

I think this meta comes from the cult of flexibility glorified for years now. Likes of Linear and other good products have made building opinionated software popular now. I like the discussion because it is mildly irritating e.g. you telling users what and how to do something instead of giving them a tool

If you were based in Europe maybe you'd think different about the last one... GDPR, MiCA and many other regulations to comply with

You hear this a lot in UX. You're building the wrong thing. You're building the thing wrong. Kinda sick of that narrative — I like your point, give value to people + receive value in return and don't break laws. What else is there to do?
