Reddit at $30B was not on my bingo card. 1. While traditionally their ad product was bad, they have been smart in leaning into the "[query] reddit" organic behavior. Other than Google and Amazon, one of the few at-scale websites that have consumer intent. Very good for ads. 2. LLMs are massively transformative for their business: a) data licensing to all the major players b) automatic translation for UGC advice / recommendations (see "[query] reddit"). 3. No meaningful competition from feed-based social networks. Missed opportunity for Quora.

Reddit is pinterest for men will always be a good product, it's totally up to them to fuck it up into a bad business. imo they're doing a not great job and it's still working. If they had amazing leadership they could be a top 10 web company

I used to add the word "reddit" at the end of every google search. becuase I knew someone had my problem or there was likely a solve for it on reddit.

Forget where I heard this, but apparently now that they are actually protecting their data, the flywheel is: 1. Google needs data 2. Reddit is the best at generating it 3. So google send them traffic 4. Google buys their data

i hope one day i can turn to farcaster as much as i do reddit for answering random questions quickly. needed a service when i was in japan last week and had a high quality actionable recco for a guy in minutes. crossing my fingers we scale enough for that to take place here one day.

Plus successfully derisked any possibility of losing power by effectively killing the third part app ecosystem, fully owning/controlling the timeline algorithm, and survived all the boycotting/exodus. Onlyup from here, I guess.

There’s a half conspiracy that 1 and 2 are not unrelated. Google added new rich results for “Discssions and Forums” that was basically for Reddit, and their normal results saw a huge spike. Then Reddit and Google agree to that licensing deal. Weird development that maybe puts a wrench in the conspiracy is that they were slightly de-ranked from a recent update

Still undervalued short time imo - the growing communities are gen Z subs from TikTok and liberal leaning millennial & gen Z coming from Facebook products. They also don't have bot issues to the same degree as other platforms, largely due to communities self-filtering and mod obsessions Long term bearish though
