No one consciously chooses to suffer and yet most of us are attached to our own suffering. We know what we do makes us miserable, and yet we continue to do it. Why?

There is comfort in the familiar even when the familiar is harmful. Between knowing something and being able to act on it is a huge gap. Most of our suffering is subconscious or in patterns we have been repeating for so long we call them “just who I am”. It’s why I /therapy

Out genes are left over from a time when a small bit of constant anxiety was beneficial for survival. Conjuring danger all day kept you alive when dangers were real. Now they are 99.9% imaginary.

When we continue to do what makes us miserable, it’s usually because it satisfies a need in the moment. It could just be a fleeting emotional easing at the time, it’ll be enough to willingly (rather through cognitive dissonance) hurt ourselves in the long run.

We become conditioned to our own suffering in small increments. As our situation worsens, we accept a lower standard as normal. We rationalize ourselves down the spiral. It usually takes hitting rock bottom, an outside perspective or a large turn of events to finally shakes us awake. 176 $DEGEN
