No one consciously chooses to suffer and yet most of us are attached to our own suffering. We know what we do makes us miserable, and yet we continue to do it. Why?

When we continue to do what makes us miserable, it’s usually because it satisfies a need in the moment. It could just be a fleeting emotional easing at the time, it’ll be enough to willingly (rather through cognitive dissonance) hurt ourselves in the long run.
