I’m against it. Kids need different point of view from parents. Different studying methods, different places and different struggles. We should not raise our kid as photocopies of ourselves. Life is tough, even at a school. We should teach them to cope with life, not schooling them.

Reach out to Rosie Sherry. She’s in the UK. I think some kids did school and then they switched. They combine homeschool with Forest school.

Homeschooling requires a good network of other families to collaborate with. But a good small daycare / school will come with this network out of the box and can provide the best of both worlds. We’ve done a bit of both and would recommend a mix.

Nah. Round off the sharp edges with public school. Tidy up the interior with informal home ed. Raw socialization plus parental insight and temperance is a great combo. But I prioritize resilience over academic perfection. Rather he be happy than change the world, but they aren't exclusive and he's sharp as a tack.

Not even a consideration due to time constraints etc But I understand the desire. Quality of education is super important to me Seems like the ROI of a personal, outside the box approach is growing compared to the traditional path

quiet praise for our public school: - 35% Jews, non-plussed about kippah - 15% Muslims, mainly from Balkans - 20% Hispanic - 5% Black - 9% AAPI - 8% multiracial - 20% low income - one boy has become a girl (overlapping categories, not meant to add up to 100) Our kid would not get this mix at home, private or parochial

I would love to but question my wife’s and my bandwidth to do it well. We’re doing montessori for now. Peak education is Alexander the Great being tutored by Aristotle. All downhill from there.

Planning to, yes. (Kids are still too little.) Growing up, I always wished I had a more personalized school. And my wife (@claudiaspitz ) was homeschooled and wants to do it for our kids.

I think it will be very hard to compensate the collaboration and diversity of thought deficiencies, next to actually getting persistent effort. I’d instead focus on finding the right school. Our kids (5, 8) go to Montessori and I am happy how they foster curiosity, independence and do individual teaching.
