Are there applications that were good in 2014/2017/2021 Ethereum that you are no longer excited about today? Conversely, are there things that were not exciting or feasible then that are good or possible now?

I guess I started an accidental AMA on which parts of the crypto space are good and which I'm so far not excited about, along with other big picture vision questions: https://x.com/VitalikButerin/status/1827583576751181961 You should feel free to ask questions here too! Let's see if Farcaster can come up with higher-quality questions than the other app :)

i saw someone mention farcaster on twitter, so i looked up dan (i knew nothing about him before that) and sent him a DM on halloween night 2022. he sent me an invite that very night, and my life hasn't been the same since. farcaster's greatest value has always been its community. it is the best open community not only in crypto, but in all of tech.

one of the coolest things/fav takeaway from @fwb fest was how most people i interacted with about @bend.eth loved that it offered SIWF (sign in with farcaster) and how much easier it was than email or twitter auth as someone who incessantly pushed the need for this integration it was v validating to see it glorified irl h/t @dwr.eth @v https://warpcast.com/balajis.eth/0x80293391

FARCASTER LOGIN What is Farcaster good for? It’s good for devs. It’s good for data analysts. And it’s good for social login. The last is the thing I’m most interested in. When you start a new site you can use Google or Apple login. And that’s fine. But it just gives you an email. And maybe Google Drive access in Google’s case. You can also use X/Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn. But those APIs change so quickly and adversarially that you can’t really build features on your site that rely on them. So you end up using them similarly to Google login, where you get a username only. Now arrives Farcaster. The first fairly large scale decentralized crypto social protocol. Where people aren’t in it solely for the money. Now, for all users who log in with Farcaster, suddenly you can provide encrypted messaging between accounts and pull their full social context. And if they’ve connected a wallet and ENS, they have a balance and can spend and receive money in your app. This changes everything.

Farcaster feature/client idea: "Mutualists" If you're a member of a list (e.g. a channel, or power badge holders, or something else), you can change your farcaster experience into a mode that pretends you only follow everyone on that list. You'd be able to see how many people on a given list have "mutualist" mode activated and have used it recently. This would be great for small-medium groups to have a more cozy experience together, ignoring whatever existing follower baggage. From a UX perspective, I imagine the app would only allow a single mutualist at a time to start. Could support multiple separate mutualists through deep-linked widgets/shortcuts (perhaps one per community?).

At @fwb FEST attendees loved that they were able to SIWF (Sign In With Farcaster) to create and login to their Bend account. It was the quickest way for attendees to onboard or log back into Bend! To @balajis.eth point, "it's good for social login." https://warpcast.com/balajis.eth/0xdfcfcafd

I'm big on Farcaster. Thanks to everyone who followed and helped me reach this milestone in about exactly a month of using the platform. I really appreciate as well as the people who have followed the /dropglobalnews platform. I think this is a great community and I also like playing around with the crypto angle of it through staking, tipping, and earning engagement. As I've mentioned earlier I just like the internet generally and am happy to find people who are doing their best to make it a better place for everyone. I encourage everyone using and building Farcaster to do their best and I'm sure that in the future it will attract a wide audience of users and hopefully be remembered as the first wave of second generation social media platforms that offer users a deeper web of relationships and better structure for consuming information.

the hardest part of building a farcaster client so far has been the volume of ecosystem changes farcaster in 2023: - decentralized twitter! - thin layer of a protocol, feel free to build whatever experience you want - we will decentralize everything soon farcaster in 2024: - frames - cast actions - power badge / priority mode - channels - composer actions - actually, fuck power badge - moxie / degen / 20x of random "hey what about you integrate our random sdk" - streaks - ok supercast has signups, cool, but its not on mobile so it cant be added to siwf - ok we now have dms but only in one client so your customers will be angry that your client can't use these dms not a rant just an observation you need to adjust the perspective and the roadmap every month to survive here really appreciate every single supercast subscriber who allows me to keep working on a farcaster client without any idea where this will go

I’m a bit out of the loop: what is the latest developer support for FIP-2? Here is my use case: I want users to be able to leave replies on specific tokens to create a global comment section. For example, replying directly to “Fidenza #0” via Farcaster and having a way to view all other people who have done so.
