i won’t competing this year i have dedicated the past 10 years of my life to athletics, sacrificed alot, moved countries and cities, struggled with injury for the past two years and had multiple surgeries and have missed out on the past 2 olympics by small margin TWICE this lead to burn out and a decline in my mental health which is why i moved away from the national training centre last year when i went to south africa in jan i had a pretty awful time i was having daily panic attacks and my training was a mess, partly because of my grandad being in hospital and also because i just wasn’t feeling right i spoke to my coach and head of british athletics and we all agreed it’s best for my mental and physical health to finally…for the first time take a year off i’m still aiming for LA 2028 and i have many championships next year which i look forward to but for now i am going to experience LIVING and HEALING physically and mentally to make sure i can make my olympic dream a reality

as a former competitive athlete and current human- I can only begin to imagine how upsetting/emotional this must feel. sending you lots of love and I know that this ‘rest’ will only lead to greater reward later on! rooting for you always.

i can’t wait to see and experience how your sense of identity evolves as a consequence of this. you are not *only* an elite athlete. you are way broader and bigger than that. and this step is huge in discovering who you are. congrats naomi, i wish you the best

“I say put mental health first. Because if you don’t, then you’re not going to enjoy your sport and you’re not going to succeed as much as you want to,” said Simone regarding her decision. “So it’s OK sometimes to even sit out the big competitions to focus on yourself because it shows how strong of a competitor and person that you really are—rather than just battle through it.” While she did get a lot of pushback for her doing what she did, it was very brave of Simone to do so and arguably the better decision in the long run.

Look at how much you've already grown! This is NOT a failure, this is a success. Sometimes you win by running really quickly in a straight line, but sometimes you have to take a few jumps!!! 💜

I guess it is not an easy decision but sometimes to disconnect a bit is the best way to reconnect again just want to drop here the history of Ana Peleteiro, the most famous athlete from Galiza, spain, her life was not easy, she also got some injuries and some bad years but finally she won a medal in the Olympics, bronze in tokyo and a gold medal in the european, her history is about resilience, fight and success, hope it can motivate or help you in your way to LA 2028 (you may do your own research but here is a link to a random article for those who know a bit about her) https://www.mundiario.com/articulo/deportes/historia-ana-peleteiro-medallista-olimpica-100-gallega/20210803161611225049.html

Oh Nae 🥺 please don’t ever feel like a let down, not again 😩 you’re literally the opposite of that. The fact that you’ve pushed through so much for a whole decade, sacrificed so much, and still showed up with love for your craft? That alone makes you a champion in every way that matters. And taking a break isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom. It takes guts to step back and say, “I need to heal,” especially when the world expects you to keep grinding. That’s strength, self love and honestly inspiring as hell! You deserve to experience life beyond the tracks, beyond all that pressure, just you living & sipping good matcha 🥹 We’re still behind you, always. If I wasn’t there before, Im here now 🫶 LA 2028 will come, and when it does, you’ll be even more powerful for giving yourself this time. Proud of you already Nae ❤️

Truly this is the best thing you can do for you. I know the burnout and it’s so hard when it feels like your whole worth rests on 1 outcome. Rooting for you long term 🩷

The athlete's mentality unchecked doesn't allow for this kind of thinking so I imagine it does feel like a let down. BUT, I'm so glad you recognize it and are taking this step. I can't think of one prominent athlete chasing anything at your level or higher that has taken a break and then said, "I wish I wouldn't have done it." They universally say, best thing for me. I'm thinking like Jordan, Simone at the highest level, but also countless stories a few rungs lower than that that we see on ESPN or SEC Network films. It's gotta be hard, but you are going to it was the right thing to do in a year or two. 🫶 🙌
