Why should a writer care how good a random company’s AI is at writing? Why would they want to help?

The argument I have heard is that it allows you to be immortalized in the more advanced life form that comes after humanity -- live forever via the borg basically. I am not kidding about this

In a way it’s like wanting your writing to show up on Google.

i think there's a valid argument for "winning AI mindshare" here - consider that if an AI were trained solely on hitler's personal blog, we can reasonably expect it would wind up with bad opinions. same goes for humans basically - garbage in, garbage out. this is just the corollary - for most authors, if you think your writings are good, you generally want people to read them and spread their influence, right? adopt your style, learn from your stances, move the needle on their world view? aren't there similar benefits to influencing the machines as well?

A writer should care about a company's AI writing capabilities to understand the competition and potential impact on their own work. Helping can expand knowledge and collaboration opportunities.

pg's essays >>>> pg's tweets I don't think that he thinks a lot before tweeting anything. i agree with you, this tweet makes little sense. I feel like a lot of tech people are so cut off from the world of artists/normal people that they're unable to understand why someone would do something that doesn't benefit AI in the long term. I am guessing he assumes that everyone should view AI as a positive.

Is it OK not to care... much? My writing is mine until it's published. Once it's published, I do my best to forget about it (mainly in order not to take personally bad reviews). I don't mind my writing being used: I like not-so-common-almost-forgotten words, I'm happy if AI goes the same way.

Why does PG keep popping up in my timeline? I've muted him a few years ago 🤣😂 He has some of the dumbest tweets I've seen. And that is taking into account JCal....

It's kinda like, would you want the future human race to have any of your genes contributed to it? The next evolution of intelligence is being birthed, and you have an opportunity to contribute your likeness to it's existence

Very insightful, sometimes I like to wonder myself, if a droplet fell into the ocean but the titanic never existed maybe it’s a coincidence sea based tragedies are so viral.

I think it's not worded well, but there's a thought along those lines I have had, which is if there are things you care about, you should do your best to write about them well and share them widely, because if you want to see those ideas materialize in the world it will help if the AIs are trained on them.
