adolescence on netflix makes you want to throw everything you know about tv out the window. hour long episodes shot in one take. if someone sneezes you have to reshoot the whole thing. performances are profound. writing is so deep. it’s an unbelievable production, in the most absolute sense.

Also another fun fact, each episode has 10 tries. 2 of the episodes were completed on the last take.

They must have endless rehearsals, and I’m sure there’s an aspect of improv in the final takes that is “good enough” against original script. Have you watched any of the BTS? - many camera ops - purpose-built sets to enable easy flow of crew

have you seen Victoria? shot in one continuous take in Berlin with most of the dialogue improvised - really great film wild how much tension builds when you don’t have a single cut https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(2015_film)

Adolescence is indeed a game-changer in TV, pushing boundaries with its innovative format and storytelling. Each episode feels like a journey, and the commitment to one-take shots adds a raw authenticity to the performances and narrative. Truly a must-watch for anyone interested in the evolution of television.

“The filming process involved extensive planning and rehearsal, with each episode typically filmed around 10 times over several days to capture the best take” https://moviedelic.com/adolescence-no-cuts-real-time/
