What is everyone’s average response time for texts? Do you get annoyed if people reply to you a few days late?

am actually responsive when I want to be and unresponsive when I don't want to be. It all depends on the context. One reason I hate instant messaging though is that implicit direct response expectation.

It's your basic right is to control your response time! Anywhere between 1200ms and 15 days (or infinity).← <context dependent>

I'm that person. Can't get annoyed at people being like me 😂 I feel most texts don't require immediate response. Sure there's the odd exception but if stuff is more urgent, one can always call.

I counted 8 messaging app on my phone, 3 social media apps with messaging capabilities, & 4 separate email addresses monitored across 3 email apps. My phone screen looks like a Xmas tree every morning and I spend 30’ basically just reviewing and clearing up notifications. It’s stress-inducing and barely manageable

mix of urgency and how much i actually want to hear back from this person (but not always correlated - i've left dear friends on read when we both treat texting as more long distance letters) (in fact me typing this right now just reminded me of a good friend i haven't responded to since the beginning of this month ty)

this reminded me of one b2b saas founder who asked his account managers to artificially delay their replies to customers (1-2 hrs) to avoid expectations of constant support & reduce issue frequency

was thinking about this few days ago, at times I want to treat it as a completely asynchronous thing but at others when I am having a conversation with someone, long wait times start to get irritating because i need to context switch back and forth

Tech startup life has programmed me to think not responding within a couple hours sends a bad signal. Only hold myself to that standard though, so probably should break the habit.

anywhere from <5m to >24hr for me. i've long flirted with the idea of using Apple's DND While Driving feature to implement an auto-responder to set expectations

I just despise texting on my phone. Usually I see the notification and wait until i get to my computer to write a proper response.

Depends on the context and the person, but I hate the feeling of my time being dictated to me by an inanimate object.
