Who here has used or currently uses Jira (by Atlassian) and what do you have to say about it? POAP Inc uses it heavily and we are exploring alternatives.

I’ve used it and generally have a very negative impression compared to my experience with GitHub Issues and Asana.

I’ve used Sevicenow + project tools for 2+ years. Atlassian Stack for 3+ years. Linear for 1 year. I work at Asana now so 3+ months. I’ve seen atlassian stack work well but you need a super strong administrator to make it work the way you want. Servicenow was great for tickets but shit for projects or when bugs needed to be promoted to bugs. Not a corporate shill but Asana has pleasantly surprised me in ease and managing tickets queues and project related work. Happy to help more or get on a call

I have been a CTO and a delivery director in large organizations. Jira was a pain to setup, needed a lot of custom dev but made me able to get a good predictability. In smaller organization, anything more complexe than GitHub issues and project is overkill IMO.

We use Jira, we don’t like it, but we use it. Main reason pricing. They have better low pricing tiers than the alternatives. If pricing is not the main concern we would switch to Linear.

Best thing I did in my entire time at ConsenSys was get us to move away from it 😅 We ended up using GitHub Issue and some 3P tool to merge repo views.

linear if you want to spend less time on configuration/move faster JIRA doesn't deserve all the slander it gets, but benefits only kick in around 100+ ppl teams

As a non-admin user, I don't mind it. Lots of configuration options to use it in a way that works for you.

Used it for several years as a lead of technical teams, always found it to be clunkier and in some cases less capable than the more modern alternatives now available. For example, something as simple as being able to make a subtask of a subtask (as eg Asana allows) means I can plan stories more flexibly and modularly

I considered Jira for my company, but I chose Youtrack. It customization possibilities are endless bacause you can use javascript. I use it heavily for automations and safety checks.

I don’t mind it but I’ve seen it used in ways that reduces productivity, increase cognitive load, and frustration nearly all the time

It’s pretty good for organization and keeping the team on the same page - no complaints with Jira
