bit.ly/4237ZBf if you're wondering why russia attacked Ukraine — it's this dictators don't start wars to win them they start wars to divert larger portion of wealth towards the most corrupt part of govmnt — military — so that their cronies can enrich themselves more

So short sighted. There will be nothing left to govern or rule, eventually.

Close but not quite. Russia invaded Ukraine because all Russian energy exports flow out of Eastern Ukraine. If Russia doesn’t dominate Ukraine their economy relies at the goodwill of what government happens to be in power in Ukraine

Obviously the military industrial complex never saw a war it didn’t like. Wealth isn’t necessarily a zero sum game though, especially when global trade is involved. I’m more concerned about how Russia emerges after this war ends/stalls. All the WW2 relics are being cleared out and they’ll be war-ready…

Also a miscalculation from Putin that his military was less corrupt and useless than it actually was, combined with a miscalculation that Ukraine & international backing was more corrupt and feeble than it actually was (though somewhat understandable given the collective shrug w/ Crimea before)
