dictators don't start wars to win them

they start wars to divert larger portion of wealth towards the most corrupt part of govmnt — military — so that their cronies can enrich themselves more

Also a miscalculation from Putin that his military was less corrupt and useless than it actually was, combined with a miscalculation that Ukraine & international backing was more corrupt and feeble than it actually was (though somewhat understandable given the collective shrug w/ Crimea before)

it wasn't a miscalculation at all — the war was literally the easiest way for putin to stay in power
