guys, has anyone been to burning man and what are your thoughts (lol) i know it’s heavily dependent on who you go with and camp setup etc, but i’ve been invited to go with some good-vibes people i know… however i’m having second thoughts because it’s soooo much prep work, fucking expensive (i don’t want to make that my reason but it is a factor) and also as an introvert i think i might hate being around people for what amounts to 10+ days including camp build and strike, yadda yadda i also went to a decompression event in zurich last year and i hated the people and corny vibe there, but i chocked it up to them being swiss i’m wondering if it would be more ~* soul healing *~ to like, go hiking for a week or go to japan or something, idk man sorry for posting in this channel lmao i don’t know how to reach the right audience for this

never been. have contemplated it for years. resourcefully just not accessible. from everything I have experienced (most of the time) the larger the resistance, the more opportunities for growth. we find the meaning in every expression. stay curious about what the resistance is telling you. 🫶🏻

If a trip is giving you so much doubt, might was well not go is my call as it is for 10+ days. If it was 1-2 , you could’ve gone by, but 10? Maybe tell them you’re sick, see their pictures or call them while they are out to camp, you know a lil about how the vibe is. There is always a next time tiny

I went in 2006 with a big camp that I helped setup/teardown and 2010 with a single friend, but stayed after to help teardown Lamplighter camp. First was life changing. The welcoming anarchic community and gift economy was eye opening. I went everywhere with a didgeridoo and performed impulsively at many camps. It unlocked doors for me. I made so many friends. Teardown was the most memorable part of my second burn. Not to say it wasn't good, it was. But watching the city disassemble around me over the course of 2 days and wearing myself to the bone pulling pillars out of the ground, napping out in the open in dust storms... Unforgettable. I don't really think it makes sense to compare a decompression party with the event - You can always find a chill space on The playa, be it at your own camp or someone else's. I personally think it's worth the time / cost. Especially if you are participating in setup/teardown. Now YOU convince ME to go plz

Festivals always feel overwhelming with their scale and many unknowns but to me they’re always worth it in the end. If you can go with cool people, they probably can recommend you some chill corners or good music stages, depending what you’re into and you will always find a quiet place somewhere to decompress if it gets overwhelming. We’ve been talking about going as well and on my own I would never do it, but with the right people I’m super down. Even with all the negative reports you always hear. In the end there’s a reason why it still exists and loved by many so it should be worth at least looking into

Based on what you've shared, you would not have a good time. It's not a "festival" and if you're looking for "soul healing" you're not going to find it there.

It’s an experience unlike any other You’re right to go with a good camp that helps handle food/water/shelter Going with the setup crew is definitely the way to go - you get to be a part of creating the city, your camp, and doing “work” with your campmates is a great way to actually get to know them

Let’s say you knew it would be hard, time-consuming, uncomfortable (both physically and emotionally), expensive, and there would be a lot of time when you weren’t enjoying yourself BUT it was guaranteed to be an epic experience that would deeply impact you and you’d remember forever. I’d assume that’s the trade-off and choose accordingly. If you go, go full-on with this camp, don’t try a halfway experience. (I absolutely love going. And it’s a lot.)

Went for 1st time last year. Some thoughts: Ppl are definitely the most important ingredient, so only go if you’re camping with ppl you like. Most camps let you do build OR strike. I did 2nd half (saw man + temple burns) and it was perfect amount of time for my first time. Being an introvert isn’t really a problem IMO. Vibe is mostly live and let live and you can always spend your day/night out in the playa with fewer ppl. One of the favorite things I did was biking to the literal edge of the playa and chilling in a random hut/art installation for a solid hr. 2 other dudes also found it and we gave each other nods but nobody said a word to each other. I’d also check out the theme this year and see if it inspires you: https://journal.burningman.org/2024/11/philosophical-center/the-theme/burning-man-2025-tomorrow-today/

It will be unlike anything you’ve ever done. However, it is so “choose your own adventure” that you will have to do the work to find the experience that you are looking for

I’ve never been! At first when I found out about iron man I really wanted to go because of all the aesthetic of what’s happening there - you know the photos look amazing , like another planet. Probably worth it!🤩 But all this situation of making a camp and the rest of the things connected with the setup not vibing with me at all.

have you ever been to a burn? there are many in europe that i'd suggest before going to BM tbh. they're far more accessible, fun and community driven. BM probably makes more sense once you've been to a few smaller burns first
